Full-height card is as high as the base at the end, where he is a screw for fastening to the back of the case. Low profile, which is supported on the end is the same height, but the PC card connected to it is not as high. This is more common in AGP, but also in some PCI-E. It is often not PCI. When the board is higher than normal PCI card is not low profile. If it is lower, then you can replace the metal bracket at the end and assemble them in a case of low-profile, if you wish. But the case is not very common.

HP low profile fits all

Edit: I do not know what must be low profile, unless it is an unusual practice. A common reason is that the inside of the cupboard is full and there is something blocking the height of the card. If you have a low profile and low-profile card needed, he said back. If something looks good on the card you want, as I said, low profile, but it is reinforced by the high level to include other mediaor you can buy or use the old card
